Hey, how'd your plant sale go? I'm thinking of having one this weekend and am still debating on price. Went to a nursery near Bell's Corner's and saw they were selling regular tom's for $1.99 a pot. Seems pretty low. I'm thinking maybe $3 - $3.50 each for my heirloom varieties though I'm worried that people will tell me that's too much.

The sale went pretty well. I was charging $3 for the larger plants (about the size of yours or even a little smaller) and $2 or 3/$5 for much smaller ones. Just remember, heirlooms are different, and tell people why. If all your plants are as nice as the ones you gave me, I'd be tempted to charge more, cause they were fantastic. You put a lot of time and effort into it, so you should at least get something back, you know?
Here, regular toms are 3.50 at Loblaws, don't know what they are at the nurseries, but probably about the same.
Do you have any extra Box Car Willie, or Eva Purple Ball that you are going to sell? I'd be tempted to drive out for those!!
And I finally mailed those mustard seeds, and a couple extra tom seed varieties, maybe next year to try. Sorry it took so long!

Thanks for the awesome tips! Of course I'll set aside some Eva Purple Ball and Box Car Willie for you! I work downtown Ottawa so maybe we can set up a meet-up or something. What sort of questions can I expect to get from people when selling these heirlooms? I already have a list of the tomatoes with descriptions, pics, vine type, fruit size/colour, etc. I was thinking of handing out a transplant how-to sheet with each tomato as well.
You are so sweet! I'd love an excuse to go to the market one day as well, so I could meet you at lunch or something. Would you like a few more Kellogg's Breakfast? or Zigan? I also have some Carbon, Black Krim, Hillbilly, Omar's Lebanese, Pineapple, Gold Medal, Mortgage Lifter, Neves Azorean Red, Prudens Purple, (because I'm sure you still need more variety!) some of these are smaller because they were started late, but should catch up no problem.
As for questions, the biggest is what are heirlooms. What's so special about them. I always explain that they're old varieties, for the most part, open pollinated so you can save seeds, and it's important for genetic diversity to keep these old strains alive. Plus the variety, color and shape is amazing, and the flavor is superb, far better than anything you can get from a supermarket or a hybrid.
One of my neighbors, who I gave plants to last year, came by to get some more this year, and she said they were absolutely divine!
I'd actually take another Kellog's Breakfast and maybe another Zigan too. I seem to be all about having two plants of each cultivar so that I can start saving seeds.
I kept an Eva and a Box Car for you - we should meet up sometime soon and exchange. I work near Elgin and Metcalfe. I can meet up anytime this week during lunch.
Got any more info on those Mers de Nom tom's you gave me? Are they determinate or indeterminate? What's the history?
Also, have you talked to you neighbour about the left over tulips from the festival?
